Enormously blessed,
yet poverty,
have developed roots
and abound in my country,
how can we say
arise, o compatriots
when this fire is raging,
how can our forbearers
rest in their graves
when their legacy
is being devoured,
how can we serve
with our heart and might
when we are
part of the fire,
the day our
anthem and pledge
become part of our souls,
faithfulness, loyalty, honesty
engraved in our hearts,
Unity, peace, freedom
become our common language,
heroes and forbearers
stop appearing in our dreams,
our honour and glory held high,
We will become Nigerians,
we will become a Nation.
